Maintenance PTF for Netware 3270 Workstation for DOS v3.0.
SYMPTOMS
PRINTING
- Failure to print or slow printing.
- Incorrect format in print jobs.
GENERAL
- Workstation attempts multiple connections during recovery, beyond the
capacity of the server to handle.
- Blank data entry fields on adjacent lines appear as solid block of color.
- Workstation crash when interrupt 7a is disabled in NET.CFG.
- Keyboard failure when configured for extended memory.
- Specified Code Page not used by keyboard mapping utility.
- KEYDEF not working properly for control keys.
- Incompatibility with some DOS programs.
- A shift key not working, as a shift key, after being defined as a hot
key
- False report; successful conversion to WSLAN 3.0
FEATURE ADDED
Ability to remap colors on the host screen.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
- Copy all files into the WSLAN directory. Reconfiguration is not required
except for the color mapping feature.
- See the instructions below regarding WSTUNEP.EXE.
PROBLEM DETAIL
PRINTING
1. Many cases of slow printing or failure to print will be remedied by
installing the new printer drivers included in this release. In addition,
a new utility, WSTUNEP.EXE is included in this PTF to help you deal with
situations in which the printer drivers do not automatically properly
adjust to a printer or to a port condition.
A. WSLAN's redirectable printer driver determines settings for the
printer port based on its first access of the port. Changing the way
the port is used, such as by switching from LAN printing to local
printing by using ENDCAP, can cause slow printing.
Issue the new command WSTUNEP, after an ENDCAP or CAPTURE (made while
WSLAN is in operation), thereby adjusting WSLAN's redirectable printer
driver to its new function. (WSTUNEP can be invoked without special
attention from the user by using batch files for the CAPTURE and
ENDCAP commands which also execute WSTUNEP.)
In case the printer does not automatically tune itself:
Issue the command "WSTUNEP printer-name" (e.g. WSTUNEP LPT1).
In case the above does not tune the printer properly:
Issue the command "WSTUNEP printer-name STATUS".
Using the status number from the previous command, double the number,
and enter the command "WSTUNEP printer-name number" (e.g. WSTUNEP LPT1
18 -- if the number returned from the STATUS request was 9)
In case the printer is still not fine tuned, repeat the above command
decreasing the number by 1 each time, until optimum performance is
obtained.
2. LU1 print data streams containing commands which utilized an internal
column counter could produce an incorrect format in the print out because
the column counter was being reset for each new RU in the data stream.
The counter is no longer reset for each RU.
3. Host initiated screen printing (printing via an LU 2 session) did not
result in an unlocked keyboard even when the host data stream has reset it.
This now works properly.
4. RPRINTER.EXE, permitting a locally attached printer to function as a LAN
printer, and WSLAN would often not operate properly when loaded together.
Control of a locally attached printer can now be alternated between
WSLAN and RPRINTER by loading and unloading RPRINTER as needed.
GENERAL
5. When the Communications Server disconnected, the work station would
attempt to make multiple connections during recovery, beyond the capacity
of the server to handle.
The work station now waits until it receives a disconnect before
attempting to reconnect.
6. Because reverse colors were used to reflect the underline attribute of a
host created field on a color monitor, blank data entry fields on adjacent
lines appeared as a solid block of color, not showing the limits of each
field.
Now a blank underlined field displays an underline as well as reverse
color.
7. When the netware shell was set to disable interrupt 7A (because of use
of the interrupt by another program), WSLAN would sometimes crash if
expanded or extended memory was being used.
This will no longer occur.
8. Certain configurations loading WSLAN in extended memory would result in
keyboard failure.
The extended memory handler has been modified.
9. The keyboard mapping utility did not automatically take the ASCII CODE
page designation from the configuration file, but always defaulted to the
U. S. standard.
The code page specified in the configuration is now used.
10. Certain changes in the functions of particular control keys made with
the KEYDEF utility did not perform as intended.
KEYDEF has been corrected.
11. Problems were encountered in running WSLAN at the same time as certain
DOS applications, either when hot-keying back and forth between them, or
with the other program running as a TSR during a host session. While it is
not possible to make WSLAN compatible with every DOS program, changes have
been made to minimize conflicts between WSLAN and other software. TSR's
such as CC:MAIL and HIJAAK can now be run in the background while in a host
session, and toggling back and forth between a host session and such
programs as Lotus 123 and WordPerfect can now be done, in most cases,
without video corruption.
12. Some HLLAPI functions contained errors.
All known HLLAPI function problems are corrected in this release.
13. If both shift keys being pressed at the same time was defined as the
hot key, one of the shift keys lost its shift functionality. (WSLAN.EXE
changed to correct)
14. WSCONVRT falsely reported successful conversion to Version 3.0, even
when .CFG file could not be found.
The messages have been corrected.
FEATURE ADDED
The WSCONFIG.EXE configuration utility permits remapping of colors on the
host screen.
